To find information about someone and to know whether he or she is still alive or already dead, many people use death records search online as they claim this is the most convenient method. Public archive including marriage, divorce, birth and obituaries can be found online. Governments have started to file public archives in the respective government offices in the early 50s.

You can freely get information in others, while in some you need to submit the necessary requirements first before you can get these results because many counties and states have different laws regarding death records search. These days, the modern day obituaries are even more comprehensive which can give you a more detailed information such as the personal information of the deceased including the date and location of death, name and relationship of the informant (can be seen in the certificate), member of surviving family members, burial and funeral notices and others.

There are many states who entertain walk in requests for public archives although some of them don't. They can even offer a same day quick service for the walk in requesters as long as they have their requirements ready. Usually, the reason for claiming information is all needed.

To retrieve data and information about obituaries with the touch of modernized technology, commercial information brokers which are also called as online data are being used.

Online public archives can avoid time wasting because you don't need to visit government office from several states to get information. They have a nationwide data so they can offer you results anywhere you are. However, just like offline method, fees also vary from online. Nevertheless, it is still the most practical and least expensive method you can use for death records search.
